GB1 AC75 race boat arrives in Naples for America’s Cup
The GB1 team’s AC75 race boat, code-named RB4, has arrived at the team’s Bagnoli base in Naples following an 800km road journey from Persico Marine in northern Italy. The 75-foot foiling vessel underwent an extensive refit to comply with new AC75 Class Rules for the 38th America’s Cup, scheduled to take place in Naples in 2027.
Key technical modifications include a shift from human-powered hydraulic systems to stored electrical energy via a specified battery system. This change necessitates significant updates to the boat’s internal configuration, electronics, and control systems. Additionally, the race crew will now consist of five sailors, including a mandate for at least one female sailor on board.
Following its arrival, RB4 will undergo final fit-out and commissioning. The team aims to begin sailing the vessel in the Bay of Naples by November, ahead of more favorable weather conditions.
