GC Biopharma and Osivax partner to develop next-generation flu vaccine

GC Biopharma has entered into a strategic partnership with French biotechnology company Osivax to co-develop a next-generation influenza vaccine. The collaboration aims to create a premium combination vaccine delivered via a single injection, merging GC Biopharma’s ‘GC Flu’ with Osivax’s influenza A candidate, ‘OVX836’.

The vaccine is designed to utilize a dual immune mechanism to provide broader and more long-lasting protection against seasonal and emerging influenza strains. While ‘GC Flu’ induces B-cell antibody responses against the virus's surface antigen (hemagglutinin), ‘OVX836’ uses Osivax’s ‘oligoDOM’ nanoparticle platform to trigger T-cell and B-cell immune responses against the more stable internal nucleoprotein (NP).

Under the agreement, GC Biopharma holds exclusive rights for domestic commercialization in South Korea and will secure long-term supply rights and royalties from global sales. Osivax will lead the global development and commercialization efforts. The partnership targets a global influenza vaccine market projected to grow to $22.5 billion by 2034.
