Gdańsk gas leak causes major traffic disruption

A major gas main was damaged during construction work near the De La Salle roundabout in Gdańsk, causing significant traffic paralysis and emergency responses. The leak resulted in gas entering sewage manholes, prompting firefighters to deploy water curtains to secure the area.

Emergency services, including eight fire brigade units and gas emergency teams, have established a safety zone. While the area is being monitored with gas detectors to ensure the remaining gas dissipates safely, authorities stated that no evacuation of nearby residential buildings was necessary.

The incident has caused massive traffic congestion across the city. Major thoroughfares, including Potokowa and Słowackiego streets, have faced closures or severe restrictions, particularly affecting travel between Morena, Wrzeszcz, and Niedźwiednik. Drivers have been redirected toward the Tricity Bypass to avoid the gridlock.
