Gdynia modernist downtown named finalist for Wonders of Poland 2026

The modernist downtown of Gdynia has been named a finalist in the ‘Wonders of Poland 2026’ plebiscite organized by National Geographic Traveler. The site, recognized for its significant interwar modernist architecture, is one of 48 candidates selected by experts and editors. Voting for the award remains open until October 13.

In conjunction with its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Gdynia is hosting a ‘UNESCO Weekend’ featuring workshops and the premiere of a new 3.5-kilometer UNESCO trail. This guided route allows visitors to explore the city’s historic urban layout and key modernist buildings. The UNESCO designation has already impacted local tourism, with hotel reservations for autumn city breaks increasing by 83 percent compared to the previous year.
