National Geographic Traveler names Poland's Wonders 2026

Overview

National Geographic Traveler has concluded its ‘Cuda Polski 2026’ (Wonders of Poland) tourism plebiscite, an initiative designed to promote unique cultural, natural, and historical sites across Poland. Following a six-week voting period involving hundreds of thousands of participants, the winners were officially announced on October 14, selecting one premier destination from each of the country’s 16 voivodeships.

Prior to the final announcement, the competition featured 48 nominees, with three candidates selected from each province. Notable nominees included the Ostróda-Elbląg Canal, sites in the Bieszczady mountains, and the modernist downtown of Gdynia. In the Małopolska region, Krynica-Zdrój was named ‘Poland’s Miracle 2026’ following a vote of over 220,000 people.

In the Wielkopolska region, the Land of 100 Lakes (Kraina 100 Jezior) was named the winner. Located west of Poznań near Sierakowo and Międzychód, the area is characterized by its high density of lakes, the Puszcza Notecka forest complex, and undulating terrain suitable for cycling, hiking, and water sports.

In the Świętokrzyskie region, the Nida River was selected as the regional winner, recognized for its natural biodiversity, meandering currents, and extensive meadows.

For the Silesian Voivodeship, the Eagle Nests Trail (Szlak Orlich Gniazd) was named the ‘Wonder of Poland 2026’. Spanning approximately 164 kilometers through the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, the trail connects Kraków and Częstochowa via limestone rocks and approximately 12 medieval castles and fortifications.
