GE Vernova expands US manufacturing and announces hybrid power project

GE Vernova is undertaking significant energy infrastructure projects in the United States, focusing on both manufacturing expansion and new power generation technologies.

In Pennsylvania, GE Vernova is investing $138 million to expand its Power Transmission manufacturing facility in Charleroi. This expansion aims to modernize the production of high-voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, and instrument transformers to reduce lead times for critical grid components. The project is expected to create approximately 275 new high-skilled manufacturing jobs by 2028, contributing to a broader $166 million investment in Western Pennsylvania intended to create over 700 jobs.

In Texas, GE Vernova and Blue Energy have entered an agreement to advance a 2.5-gigawatt hybrid power project near Victoria. The facility will combine natural gas turbines with small modular reactors (SMRs) to meet rising electricity demands from data centers and artificial intelligence. The plan involves deploying gas turbines first to provide approximately 1 gigawatt of power by 2030, followed by the addition of up to five nuclear reactors to provide an additional 1.5 gigawatts of capacity. A final investment decision is expected in 2027.
