Gediz River pollution highlighted at Manisa environmental panel
During the Tarzan and Environment Days organised by the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality, a series of panels and discussions examined the environmental problems of the Gediz River basin. Experts warned that pollution in the Gediz River is spreading to the İzmir Gulf, posing serious risks to ecosystems, cultural heritage and public health. The forum, held at the Büyük Saruhan Hotel in Yunusemre, brought together municipal officials, environmental NGOs and scientific specialists to propose measures for protecting water resources, preserving natural habitats and reducing health hazards from water and air contamination.
The event also featured a cultural discussion titled “From Mythology to Literature: Gediz,” highlighting the river’s historic and literary significance, and a health‑focused panel that reviewed scientific data on the impacts of environmental pollutants on community well‑being. Participants called for greater public awareness and coordinated action to address the basin’s growing ecological pressures.
