Geely breaks hybrid range record and rolls out new efficient models

Geely’s Galaxy A7 plug‑in hybrid sedan set a Guinness World Record by traveling 2,608.36 km in China without refuelling or recharging, surpassing the previous mark of 2,369.95 km. The test covered four provinces—Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi and Guangdong—and used the Thor AI Hybrid 2.0 system, a 1.5 L gasoline engine paired with an electric motor that achieves 47.26 % thermal efficiency and an electric‑only range of about 235 km.

In parallel, Geely unveiled its Galaxy TT electric sedan, which employs a 16‑in‑1 Intelligent E‑Drive unit weighing only 75 kg and delivering 93.8 % energy efficiency. Equipped with a 75.2 kWh “nano” battery, the car can travel up to 725 km on a single charge and achieved a Guinness record for the lowest energy consumption (8.2 kWh/100 km). Smaller battery versions are also offered.

The company also released teaser images of the upcoming Galaxy Cruiser 700 SUV, a PHEV with a 1,129 hp powertrain and an off‑road design reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender, slated for launch later this year. Additionally, the Renault‑Geely joint venture Horse Powertrain introduced a 2.0 L methanol‑fuelled range‑extender engine (D20) that can generate up to 120 kW to charge the vehicle’s battery, promising lower emissions and lighter battery packs despite challenges such as lower energy density and fuel toxicity.
