Geely launches Thunder 16‑in‑1 electric drive unit with 93.8% efficiency

Geely Auto Group unveiled its new Thunder electric drive system, a 16‑in‑1 intelligent unit that integrates twelve hardware functions—motor, controller, reducer, DCDC converter, on‑board charger, power distribution unit, high‑ and low‑voltage battery management, vehicle control unit, thermal management, pre‑charge control and power‑domain gateway—with four dedicated software controls for energy, charging, motion and health management. The compact design measures less than 13 inches in height, weighs about 75 kg (165 lb) and eliminates more than 180 redundant parts, cutting high‑voltage wiring by 30% and low‑voltage wiring by 15%. Geely reports a laboratory efficiency of 93.8% on the China Light‑Duty Vehicle Test Cycle, a record for a production‑ready solution. The unit will power the forthcoming Geely Galaxy TT sport sedan, offered in rear‑wheel‑drive (329 hp) and all‑wheel‑drive (570 hp / 425 kW) versions, and adds roughly one cubic foot of trunk space. In testing, a vehicle equipped with Thunder achieved a consumption of 8.2 kWh/100 km under specific conditions, while the CLTC cycle indicates 10.7 kWh/100 km.
