Chinese EV launches and tech 2026 – September Update
Overview
In late May, SAIC’s MG brand introduced the compact MG 4X SUV, offering up to 610 km of range. Huawei unveiled the ZunJie S800 Grand Design on 25 June, a model targeting the high-end market with pricing starting from ¥138.8 k. XPENG brought its P7+ fastback to Italy, utilizing an 800 V architecture and AI Turing chip. By early July, the MG 07 entered mass production, featuring an 800 V platform and Momenta R7 AI system. Its launch faced controversy when netizens accused the design of copying the Porsche Taycan and Xiaomi SU7; MG defended the styling as an evolution of its 1962 MGB GT heritage. Huawei-backed test vehicles, including the Zhiji RX coupe-SUV and the Hongmeng Zhixing Zunzhi SUV, were revealed, showcasing advanced laser-radar matrices and Qian Kun driving architecture. Geely introduced its Thunder 16-in-1 electric drive, a 75 kg module that integrates twelve hardware functions and four software controls. This system, which achieved a Guinness World Record of 8.2 kWh/100 km on a Qinghai-Lake loop, debuted in the Galaxy TT sedan. The Galaxy TT, featuring an 800 V platform and CATL batteries, entered pre-orders in August. In September, Geely officially launched the Galaxy TT lineup in China with five variants. The models feature customized Shenxing TT lithium iron phosphate batteries from CATL, supporting 6C fast charging that allows a 10% to 80% charge in approximately 11 to 12 minutes. Pricing for the lineup starts at 129,900 yuan, with the high-performance AWD Ultra variant delivering 425 kW and a 0–100 km/h time of 3.8 seconds. The chassis was developed with the Lotus Europe team to optimize handling. Additionally, Wenjie released test results for the M9 Ultra SUV, and Xiaomi announced its Pengcheng series of plug-in hybrid SUVs.
