Geely launches budget Starray and E5 SUVs in Europe

Chinese automaker Geely is introducing two new SUV models in Europe under its own brand. The Starray is a plug‑in hybrid SUV priced from €32,990, offering two battery packs—18.4 kWh (≈83 km electric range) and 29.8 kWh (≈136 km)—combined with a 1.5 L petrol engine and an electric motor delivering 193 kW (262 hp) and a top speed of 170 km/h. Fuel consumption is quoted at 1.5 L/100 km with CO₂ emissions of 33 g/km. The fully electric E5 SUV starts at €37,990, measures 4.62 m, and is available with a 60.2 kWh battery (≈430 km) or a 68.4 kWh battery (≈475 km). It produces 160 kW (218 hp), tops out at 165 km/h and can charge at up to 120 kW. Geely aims to compete with Volkswagen, Opel, Toyota, Hyundai and Kia by offering low prices, long warranties and a growing portfolio that should reach about a dozen model families by 2028. The launch follows Geely’s recent stakes and acquisitions in Europe—including a share in Mercedes, control of Smart, and ownership of Volvo, Lotus and other brands—signalling its ambition to become a major budget‑brand player on the continent.
