Geely unveils AI-powered 2.25 MW ultra-fast EV charging technology

Geely has introduced ‘Geely Smart Charging’, an ultra-fast, AI-powered charging system designed to reduce electric vehicle recharging times to levels comparable to traditional refueling. During demonstrations in Ningbo, China, the system utilized a 2.25-megawatt (MW) peak output to charge a Lynk & Co 10 and a Zeekr 001 from 10% to 70% in just 4 minutes and 30 seconds. A full charge of 97% was achieved in 8 minutes and 40 seconds.

The technology integrates several advanced components, including the Xingrui PowerMind AI to dynamically manage power and the Fifth-Gen Charging Station (C12). To handle the extreme thermal loads of 2,250 kW per connector, Geely employs a five-point liquid cooling system that spans from the energy storage unit to the vehicle battery. The AI system is designed to anticipate temperature increases 30 seconds in advance, maintaining average battery temperatures below 55 degrees Celsius.

To mitigate the potential for battery degradation caused by frequent high-power charging, the system uses Lithium-Ion Pulse Restoration Tech. This method utilizes micro-pulse currents which Geely claims can increase battery cell cycle life by up to 20%. While the company highlights these advancements as a solution to EV adoption barriers, some analysts note that detailed charging curves and exact battery capacities have not yet been fully disclosed.
