Geely unveils 2,250 kW AI-powered ultra-fast EV charging technology
Geely Auto Group has unveiled its fifth-generation Smart Charging technology, which aims to significantly reduce electric vehicle charging times. In testing with Lynk & Co 01 and Zeekr 001 models, the system charged batteries from 10% to 70% in 4 minutes and 30 seconds, and from 10% to 97% in 8 minutes and 40 seconds. The system utilizes a charging station capable of delivering a peak power of up to 2,250 kW.
To manage the extreme heat generated by such high power, Geely employs the Xingrui PowerMind AI model, developed in collaboration with StepFun. This AI system predicts battery temperature fluctuations up to 30 seconds in advance, allowing for real-time adjustments to charging speed and current. The objective is to maintain an average battery temperature below 55°C and a peak temperature below 65°C. Additionally, Geely introduced an Ultra Short Blade Battery designed to reduce charging temperatures by 10% and a lithium-ion restoration technology using micropulses to maintain battery health.
This advancement places Geely in direct competition with other Chinese manufacturers like BYD and CATL. BYD's Flash Charging system can charge from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes, while CATL's Shenxing technology can charge from 10% to 80% in 3 minutes and 44 seconds. While Geely leads in peak power output, BYD currently maintains a larger installed infrastructure of charging stations.
