Gelecek Partisi faces internal opposition over dissolution decision

Ahmet Davutoğlu, leader of the Gelecek Partisi, has announced a decision to terminate the party's political activities, citing a deadlock in Turkey's political system and the loss of capacity for self-renewal within existing political mechanisms.

Internal opposition has emerged following the announcement. Party Board Member İsmail Kamacı stated that the decision to dissolve the party should be left to the will of the delegates. Kamacı reported that party organizations and delegates have expressed strong opposition to the dissolution and intend to vote against it during the congress scheduled for August 22.

If the delegates decide to continue the party's operations, Selçuk Özdağ is expected to run as the candidate for chairman. Kamacı also claimed that the decision was made without sufficient consultation with the board members, noting that many party officials learned of the announcement at the same time as the public.
