David Kabanda, Executive Secretary to the National Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), has announced that General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the current Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces, is set to contest the 2031 presidential election.

According to Kabanda, the announcement signals the beginning of political preparations for Uganda’s leadership transition following the presidency of Yoweri Museveni. The declaration has placed the President’s son at the center of discussions regarding the country’s political succession and the potential relationship between the military and electoral politics.
