Gender equality reports highlight wage gaps and perception disparities

Recent reports indicate significant disparities in gender equality across different regions. In Mauritius, a report by the Charles Telfair Centre titled ‘Towards Gender Inclusive Futures in the Western Indian Ocean’ identifies an ‘unexplained’ wage gap of 20.9% between men and women. The report, which covers several countries including Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Seychelles, and South Africa, recommends implementing transparent recruitment and promotion procedures, quotas, flexible hours, and affordable childcare to address structural barriers to women's leadership roles.

In France, data from Great Place To Work highlights a growing gap in how men and women perceive professional equality. While men’s perception of fair pay and equal access to leadership roles has improved significantly since 2021, women’s perceptions have remained largely stagnant. For instance, 45% of men believe they are paid fairly compared to only 33% of women. Similarly, the gap in perceived equality regarding access to management positions has widened from seven to ten percentage points over the last five years.
