Gender violence reports rise in Saltillo and Altamira
Authorities in Mexico are reporting significant figures regarding gender and domestic violence in Saltillo and Altamira. In Saltillo, the specialized 'Línea 800 VIOLETA' service has recorded 484 reports of gender violence during 2026. Operated by the Comisaría de Seguridad y Protección Ciudadana, the hotline provides emergency assistance, gender-perspective guidance, and case channeling for women, girls, and adolescents.
In Altamira, the Guardia Estatal reports receiving up to 90 calls per week related to domestic violence and violence against women, averaging approximately 12.8 cases per day. Ludwig Porras Rangel, the regional delegate for the police force, noted a significant gap in legal action, stating that only about 10% of these incidents are officially reported to authorities. Officials are working with women's institutes and prosecutor offices to address these figures and encourage a stronger culture of reporting.
