Mexico experiences widespread electricity outages in July 2026
The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) announced a four‑hour planned interruption on the night of 23–24 July 2026 affecting nine communities in Galeana, Nuevo León. A separate 12‑hour outage was scheduled for Saturday 25 July in the municipality of Tlacuilotepec, Puebla, to allow maintenance on transmission lines.
In Yucatán, the city of Kanasín continues to suffer recurring power cuts as aging transformers and vegetation‑related faults strain the local grid. Genera PR, a private generator operator, admitted responsibility for a massive outage that left more than 240,000 customers without electricity after an operational error with a generation unit. Authorities have urged residents to take precautionary measures and are planning infrastructure upgrades to improve reliability across the affected states.
