General Motors secures chip supply and expands defense production

General Motors is implementing several strategic measures to secure its supply chain and expand its defense-related business. The automaker has entered into a Strategic Customer Agreement with Micron Technology to ensure a long-term supply of critical memory and storage platforms, including LPDRAM, NOR flash, and UFS NAND. These components are essential for advanced driver-assistance systems, infotainment, and digital cockpit technologies.

To further mitigate supply pressures, GM has arranged a $4.5 billion facility to prepay suppliers for critical parts. This move aims to protect production lines from rising demand for automotive-certified memory chips, which is being driven by both the automotive sector and hyperscale AI clusters.

Separately, General Motors has begun supplying missile-housing components for Lockheed Martin’s Patriot PAC-3 MSE interceptors. This partnership aims to assist the Pentagon in boosting munitions production. GM CEO Mary Barra has indicated that the company expects to generate approximately $700 million in defense revenue this year.
