General Motors unveils OnStar AI and autonomous driving concept
General Motors (GM) has introduced several new technological advancements at its ‘GM Forward’ event in New York, including the OnStar AI assistant and the ‘Concept Horizon’ autonomous interior vision.
OnStar AI utilizes natural language voice commands to allow drivers to control cabin temperature, check driving range, and receive navigation guidance that includes charging stops. The assistant can also explain dashboard warning lights and vehicle-specific features like lane assist. GM plans to roll out this feature via over-the-air updates to the 2027 Cadillac LYRIQ first, before expanding to other models.
By 2027, GM will launch a unified OnStar mobile app to replace existing brand-specific apps for Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, and Buick. This new app will feature ‘Connected Camera’ for event-based video recording and ‘OnStar Family’ for sharing locations and schedules. For commercial clients, ‘OnStar Fleet Intelligence’ will use AI to help managers analyze vehicle data and reduce operating costs.
Additionally, the ‘Concept Horizon’ vision showcases a future where autonomous vehicles transform into mobile spaces for work, rest, or leisure, capable of performing daily errands and self-parking.
