Generation Alpha influences over $255 billion in consumer spending

Generation Alpha, children born between the early 2010s and mid-2020s, is exerting significant influence over household consumer spending. Research indicates that children aged 8 to 14 influence approximately 42 percent of household spending on average, a figure that rises to 49 percent in high-income households.

In the United States and United Kingdom, Generation Alpha influences over $255 billion in spending across sectors such as food, fashion, and leisure. High levels of digital connectivity play a major role; 72 percent of 7- to 14-year-olds use smartphones regularly, and 97 percent report making independent purchasing decisions at least some of the time. Common areas of influence include food and drinks, toys, clothing, and digital goods such as apps and in-game purchases.

As these children engage more with earning and spending, experts suggest a growing need for parental guidance to foster financial literacy. Proactive education in savings and investing is recommended to help this generation manage their increasing exposure to digital transactions and entrepreneurial opportunities.
