Generation X Outpaces Millennials in Savings, Survey Shows Retirement Optimism

A recent analysis highlights that Generation X has accumulated more savings than Millennials, citing lower student‑debt burdens, stable economic conditions during their formative years, and greater access to employer‑sponsored benefits. The study notes that 38 % of early‑millennial households face inadequate retirement income, while Gen Xers benefit from higher emergency savings and diversified portfolios.

A separate SoFi survey of 761 adults aged 18‑45 finds that 57 % of Gen Z respondents consider retirement achievable with a plan, compared with 45 % of Millennials. Overall, 77 % feel confident they can retire comfortably, though inflation and running out of money remain top concerns. Many respondents have reduced or paused contributions due to financial stress, and everyday costs such as housing are cited as major barriers to saving.
