Genesis GV90 features retractable dashboard screen for entertainment
Genesis has unveiled a specialized entertainment feature for its flagship electric SUV, the GV90. The vehicle features a retractable dashboard screen designed to transform the cabin into a mobile cinema when parked.
In standard driving mode, a 23.6-inch OLED screen displays navigation, driving data, and media. Once the vehicle is stationary, the screen can rise 90mm via a brushless motor and rack-and-pinion mechanism, expanding the total display area to 24.6 inches. This movement increases the usable viewing area by approximately 70%, revealing a 3840x1440 resolution interface known as ‘Media Home’ for streaming services and live TV.
To ensure stability and minimize vibration caused by the mechanism's weight, engineers fixed the display directly to the dashboard crossbeam. The system has undergone over 100,000 cycle tests and operates at noise levels below 40dB. For audio, the GV90 offers an optional 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. For safety, the screen automatically retracts if the vehicle begins to move to prevent driver distraction and ensure proper airbag deployment.
