Genesis prepares September launch for first GV80 Hybrid model

Genesis has completed noise and emission certifications for the GV80 Hybrid, marking the brand’s first mass-produced hybrid model. The vehicle is scheduled for a domestic launch in South Korea this September.

The GV80 Hybrid utilizes a 2.5-liter gasoline turbo engine paired with a parallel hybrid system consisting of two motors: a P1 motor for starting and power generation, and a P2 motor for driving and regenerative braking. This configuration produces a combined maximum output of 352 horsepower and 54.0 kg·m of torque, representing a 16% increase in power and a 26% increase in torque compared to the existing 2.5 turbo gasoline model.

Key technical features include a new rear-wheel-drive-based 7-speed automatic transmission designed to reduce weight by using the P2 motor for reverse movement. The system also incorporates Hyundai Motor Group’s first liquid-cooled hybrid battery. Internal testing indicates the hybrid model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds and offers a fuel efficiency improvement of over 25% compared to the standard gasoline version. This launch is part of Genesis’s broader multi-powertrain strategy, which includes balancing electric vehicles with hybrid and EREV options.
