Genesis targets luxury EV market with flagship GV90 SUV

The luxury electric vehicle (EV) market is experiencing rapid growth. In South Korea, the number of new electric vehicle registrations priced over 100 million won rose 2.6 times in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year, reaching 7,050 units.

Genesis is preparing to enter this high-end segment with the launch of its first large flagship electric SUV, the GV90 and the GV90 Neolun. The GV90 utilizes the eMP platform and features a 123.5 kWh battery. The GV90 Neolun is designed as a top-tier luxury model, featuring a unique ‘Neolun Arch Gate’ with coach doors that lack a B-pillar, and an ‘Executive Suite’ four-seat VIP lounge configuration. The interior incorporates traditional Korean elements, such as a wood veneer floor with a radiant heating system inspired by Ondol.

Other luxury manufacturers are also intensifying competition. Bentley Motors recently unveiled the Bently الكهربائي (Torcal), its first pure electric luxury SUV, boasting 888 horsepower. BMW plans to release the new i7 sedan in the second half of the year, while Volvo has already begun deliveries of its flagship EX90 SUV.
