Genesis to launch GV80 hybrid SUV next month
Genesis is expected to launch the hybrid version of its GV80 SUV next month. While official pricing has not been released, industry analysts predict the entry-level model will be priced around 80 million Korean won.
The new hybrid powertrain is a dedicated rear-wheel-drive system developed specifically for the Genesis luxury brand by Hyundai Motor Group. Based on a 2.5T turbocharged engine, the system utilizes a P1+P2 dual-motor structure. This configuration is expected to deliver a maximum output of 352 horsepower and a torque of 54.0 kgf·m, representing a 16% increase in power and a 26% increase in torque compared to the current 2.5T gasoline model. Additionally, fuel efficiency is projected to improve by more than 25%.
The GV80 hybrid will compete directly with the Lexus RX 350h in the luxury hybrid SUV market. The Lexus RX 350h starts at approximately 87.9 million Korean won in South Korea. Analysts suggest that if Genesis can keep the entry price below 80 million won or maintain a price gap of less than 10 million won compared to the gasoline version, the model will be highly competitive, especially when considering the brand's domestic service network advantages.
