Genesis unveils Magma GT supercar concept amid racing uncertainty

Hyundai Motor Group's luxury brand, Genesis, has unveiled the Magma GT Concept, a mid-engine supercar prototype designed to compete with premium European manufacturers. The concept features a low, wide body and advanced aerodynamics, signaling the brand's ambition to move beyond luxury sedans and SUVs into the high-performance supercar segment.

However, the brand's expansion into professional motorsport faces uncertainty. Cyril Abiteboul, leader of Genesis Magma Racing, indicated that plans to enter the GMR-001 hypercar into the IMSA SportsCar Championship in the United States have been paused indefinitely. This decision follows an internal assessment that entering the GTP class may not be a viable business move, especially as other manufacturers like Acura and potentially Porsche reconsider their involvement in similar racing series.
