Genetic research and education boost oncology in Poland
A large-scale study presented at the European Society of Human Genetics conference analyzed genetic sequencing data from more than 30,000 cancer patients at Dana‑Farber (Boston) and MD Anderson (Houston). Researchers identified dozens of ancestry‑linked mutations across breast, colorectal, glioma, pancreatic and lung cancers, many of which are targetable with existing therapies. The findings suggest that incorporating patients' genetic origins can improve survival predictions, especially for breast cancer and glioma.
Separately, a free webinar for patients and families will be held on 24 June to explain genetic testing in female cancers such as breast, ovarian and endometrial cancer. The session, led by Prof. Anna Wójcicka of the "Wiedzieć Więcej" foundation, will cover the role of hereditary and somatic mutations, testing procedures, treatment implications and reimbursement options through the Polish health system.
