Cade Klubnik shines in Jets preseason debut after Geno Smith injury
Rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik made an impressive NFL preseason debut for the New York Jets, leading two scoring drives in a 24-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Klubnik was thrust into a starting role after veteran Geno Smith was scratched from the game due to a sore foot and ankle.
Klubnik completed 5 of 7 passes for 56 yards. His first drive resulted in a 27-yard field goal, while his second drive was capped by a 31-yard touchdown run from Braelon Allen. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn praised Klubnik’s composure and ability to operate the offense despite limited practice repetitions with the first unit.
In contrast, Bailey Zappe struggled in relief, throwing two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. On the defensive side, rookie cornerback Mory Bamba stood out with four pass deflections. Additionally, the Jets announced that nose tackle T'Vondre Sweat is returning to the active roster after being sidelined with a hamstring injury.
