Genoa expands free sports program for seniors

The city of Genoa is expanding its “Sport Senior” project, which provides free physical activity sessions for residents over the age of 65. Following a successful first season that saw over 3,700 participants, the program will increase its outdoor locations from 12 to 18, with two sites available in each of the city's nine municipalities.

To ensure continuity during inclement weather, each outdoor site will have an alternative indoor space. The new season is scheduled to run from October 5, 2026, to June 30, 2027. Sessions will consist of 60-minute classes held twice a week in the mornings, led by kinesiology specialists focused on preventive and adapted physical activity.

Registration opens on September 7 for local residents. Participants are required to provide a valid medical certificate for non-competitive sports. The initiative aims to promote health, autonomy, and social interaction among the elderly population.
