Genoa elderly welfare and social initiatives

Overview

The City of Genoa has introduced several initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and social integration of elderly residents.

In August 2026, the city launched a hearing prevention initiative proposed by Welfare Councilor Cristina Lodi. This project seeks to establish a collaborative network between public and private entities to prevent hearing loss and reduce social isolation among citizens over 65, particularly those facing socio-economic difficulties. The program includes awareness campaigns and subsidized hearing services.

Following this, in September 2026, the city announced the expansion of its ‘Sport Senior’ project. Building on a previous season with over 3,700 participants, the program will increase its outdoor locations from 12 to 18 across nine municipalities. Running from October 2026 to June 2027, the initiative provides twice-weekly kinesiology-led sessions to promote health, autonomy, and social interaction among seniors.
