Genoa Issues Three‑Day Yellow Heat Alert as Temperatures Rise Above 25 °C

The Italian Ministry of Health placed Genoa on a three‑day yellow heat‑wave alert from Saturday 11 July through Monday 13 July, citing sustained temperatures above 25 °C and humidity levels reaching 80‑100 % in many coastal areas. The alert emphasizes physiological risks from the heat, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.

Meteorological services forecast mostly sunny conditions for the period, with occasional strong local thunderstorms expected on the western hills of the region. Forecasts also note a sea state that will be rough along the coast in the morning, easing later in the day. Public health guidance advises keeping indoor temperatures at or above 25 °C, maintaining hydration, avoiding excessive physical exertion during peak heat, and checking on neighbours who may need assistance.

Residents are urged to use shading, insulation, and well‑maintained air‑conditioning units, and to store perishable food safely. The combined weather and health warnings aim to mitigate the physiological discomfort and potential heat‑related illnesses expected during the heatwave.
