Genova commemorates victims of the Ponte Morandi collapse eight years later

On the eighth anniversary of the Ponte Morandi collapse, which killed 43 people in 2018, the city of Genova held various commemorations. Official ceremonies took place at the Radura della Memoria, attended by local and national figures including Mayor Silvia Salis, President of the Liguria Region Marco Bucci, and Deputy Minister Edoardo Rixi. Religious services were also held at San Bartolomeo della Certosa.

In Torre del Greco, sirens were sounded to honor four young victims from the area. The anniversary also highlighted recent legal developments, including a first-instance court ruling involving 32 convictions, notably for former ASPI CEO Giovanni Castellucci.

Mayor Silvia Salis announced that the Municipality of Genova will pursue significant legal action to seek compensation for the city's economic and reputational damages. She stated that the city continues to face the long-term consequences of the disaster, including ongoing construction and uncertainty. Funds from any potential settlement would be reinvested into urban maintenance and safety.
