Genoa resolves municipal labor dispute with new hiring plan

The Municipality of Genoa has resolved a labor dispute with municipal employees, ending a period of industrial action. Following discussions with trade unions across 22 meetings, the administration has committed 4.5 million euros to personnel.

The agreement includes 256 planned hires for 2026, with an additional 187 positions expected in 2027 due to a 75% turnover rate. Mayor Silvia Salis stated that more than half of these new roles will be dedicated to strengthening schools, security, and essential citizen services. The administration aims to continue improving turnover rates and addressing long-standing requests from the workforce to enhance public service quality.
