Genova: Emergency ship Life Support docks with 113 rescued migrants

The humanitarian vessel Life Support, operated by Emergency, has docked at the Port of Genoa following a four-day journey from the central Mediterranean. On board are 113 migrants rescued during two separate operations on October 27 and 28 in international waters. The group includes 36 unaccompanied minors, nine women, and two pregnant women.

The rescued individuals, who departed from Libyan locations including Gasr Garabulli and Zawiya, originate from several countries, including Bangladesh, Somalia, Eritrea, Egypt, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Sudan, Niger, and Djibouti. Medical personnel reported that while most are in stable condition, many suffer from skin conditions due to poor hygiene and seasickness.

The Municipality of Genoa has mobilized civil protection teams, social workers, and intercultural mediators to manage the arrival. Local authorities, including the Welfare and Civil Protection departments, are providing immediate assistance such as hot meals and medical support, with specific attention directed toward minors under the age of 14. Ocean navigator Giovanni Soldini participated in the mission as a volunteer rescuer.
