Genta Koja assumes office as Okinawa Governor
Genta Koja has officially assumed office as the Governor of Okinawa Prefecture. Having won the election on September 13 with over 420,000 votes, Koja becomes the youngest person to hold the position in the prefecture's history.
During his first day at the prefectural office, Koja expressed his commitment to succeeding the responsibilities held by previous governors, including Denny Tamaki. He stated his intention to lead an administration that stays close to the needs of the citizens.
In an address to prefectural officials, Koja urged department heads to meet public expectations through broad perspectives, calling on the staff to “move Okinawa forward together.” His election marks a shift in the region's leadership, as he is the first conservative governor in 12 years.
