On 9 October, the Okinawa Prefectural Assembly unanimously approved the appointment of Masatoshi Onaga, 77, as the new Vice Governor for a four-year term. Onaga, a former chairman of the prefectural LDP, was selected by Koja to serve as a “bridge between the prefecture and the national government” to support administrative development. Upon his appointment, Onaga pledged to dedicate his efforts to resolving regional issues.
