Genta Matsuda trains with master shoemaker for new drama role
Genta Matsuda, a member of the group Travis Japan, has undergone intensive training under world-renowned shoemaker Noriyuki Misawa to prepare for his lead role in the upcoming TV Asahi drama, ‘Hadakanbou-tachi’. The series, based on a novel by Kaori Ekuni, premieres on October 3 and follows Ryo Sabasaki, a character who works in a custom shoemaking workshop.
To ensure authenticity in his portrayal of a professional craftsman, Matsuda studied traditional handmade leather shoe production, including measuring, cutting, sewing, and the ‘tsurikomi’ process. Misawa, an award-winning artisan who has received international recognition and worked with Hollywood celebrities, will also serve as the production supervisor for footwear and movement in the drama.
During the training, Misawa noted Matsuda’s unexpected dexterity, particularly in his use of specialized tools. As a gesture of encouragement, Misawa presented Matsuda with a pair of custom-made, one-of-a-kind shoes.
