George Bakis resigns as director of SYRIZA parliamentary group
George Bakis has submitted his resignation as director of the SYRIZA‑PS parliamentary group in Greece. In a letter to group members he said that “personal strategies and not collective effort” now dominate the party, and that behaviours and practices are “far from the fundamental values of the Left.”
Bakis linked his decision to recent internal events, including the resignation of party president Sotiris Famellos and what he described as “unprecedented” developments that he could not tolerate. He thanked party colleagues for their cooperation and expressed gratitude to Famellos for his trust, emphasizing the need for unity over division while criticizing the “corrupt right‑wing government” for “stealing lives little by little.”
