George Enescu commemorations mark 145th birth anniversary

Various cultural institutions and organizations are holding events to commemorate the 145th anniversary of the birth of Romanian composer George Enescu.

In Bucharest, the George Enescu National Museum is organizing a concert at Palatul Suțu featuring the Musica Viva Ensemble. Additionally, the George Enescu Festival has announced that preparations for its 28th edition, scheduled for August 2027, are already underway with an estimated budget of 73.9 million lei. The MINA – Museum of Immersive New Art is also hosting audiovisual projections of Enescu’s ‘Romanian Poem’.

In Bacău, the George Enescu International Airport hosted a musical production titled ‘Romanian Longing’ by the George Apostu Culture Centre, featuring soprano Gabriela Iștoc and ballet performances to surprise departing travelers.

In Paris, tributes including flowers and Romanian flags were placed at Enescu’s grave in the Père-Lachaise Cemetery, which reportedly shows signs of recent restoration. Other regional commemorations include a book exhibition at the Valeriu Butulescu Municipal Library in Petroșani and a painting installation by Adrian Dică at the Palatul Cantacuzino.
