George Kirk convicted in NSW murder case
A Newcastle man, Mark Peckham, 41, was found guilty by a jury of murdering George Kirk during a drug‑related confrontation in Dubbo, New South Wales. The killing occurred on 16 August 2023 when Peckham and an unidentified accomplice returned to Kirk’s partner’s home to demand drugs, leading to a fatal stabbing under Kirk’s armpit.
During the sentencing hearing at the Supreme Court in Orange, Kirk’s family described him as a loving son with a good heart. His sister recounted the night of the murder, noting Kirk’s final text exchange with her, while his parents spoke of their lasting devastation. Peckham, though convicted, has maintained that he did not deliver the fatal wound.
