George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art set to open in Los Angeles

The $1‑billion Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, a joint initiative of filmmaker George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson, will open to the public on September 22, 2026 in Exposition Park, Los Angeles. Designed by architect Ma Yansong, the 300,000‑square‑foot building occupies 11 acres and houses 33 galleries with roughly 1,300 artworks ranging from comic strips and manga to fine‑art illustrations and pieces from Lucas’s Star Wars archives.

The museum will feature two state‑of‑the‑art cinemas—the Robert Flaherty Theater and the Slavko Vorkapich Theater—screening curated films and the previously unreleased animated series “Star Wars: Detours.” Curator Ryan Linkof said the venue will serve both as an exhibition space and a premiere platform for film programs, offering visitors a blend of narrative art and cinematic history.
