George Russell acknowledges dwindling World Championship chances

Mercedes driver George Russell has indicated that his chances of winning the World Championship are diminishing. Following Kimi Antonelli’s victory at Monza, Russell trails his teammate by 66 points. Antonelli currently leads the championship with 267 points, while Russell holds second place with 201 points.

Russell stated that he is no longer focusing on a championship comeback, noting that closing the gap will be exceptionally difficult. He intends to focus on individual races and maximizing his performance for the remainder of the season. Antonelli expressed a similar sentiment, stating he prefers to focus on each race individually rather than dwelling on the standings, noting that the balance of power in the sport can shift quickly.
