George Russell confirms upcoming engine penalty

Mercedes driver George Russell has confirmed he will likely face a grid penalty later this season due to upcoming engine component changes. This development comes as his championship title prospects diminish following the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

After the race, Russell sits 66 points behind his teammate, Kimi Antonelli, who secured his seventh victory of the season after an impressive drive from 19th on the grid. Russell indicated that the penalty will likely occur during the Azerbaijan or United States Grands Prix, where overtaking is more manageable than at tracks like Sepang or Singapore.

Russell expressed hope that the penalty would coincide with the introduction of car upgrades to mitigate the impact of starting from the back. Despite the setback, he noted that his focus remains on individual performance rather than the championship standings.
