The case involves allegations from Romania’s anti-organized crime agency, DIICOT, that Georgescu and his associates formed an organized criminal group. Prosecutors claim the group defrauded a businessman from Buzău County of approximately 1.1 million euros by promising access to a foreign credit line worth up to 15 million euros. During recent raids, investigators reportedly seized jamming devices, data storage units, and suspected forged identity documents. DIICOT stated the group operated in both Romania and the United Kingdom.

The legal proceedings reached a deadlock when the two original judges on the appeal panel disagreed on the preventive measure, necessitating the appointment of a third magistrate to resolve the divergence. Georgescu, who gained prominence after topping the first round of the 2024 presidential elections—which were later annulled due to allegations of Russian interference—denies all wrongdoing.
