Georgia Faces Satilla River Flooding and Triple‑Digit Heat Index

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville issued flood warnings for the Satilla River in southeast Georgia. Minor flooding is already occurring in Ware, Pierce and Brantley counties, with river levels at the Waycross gauge measuring 15.4 ft—more than two feet above the 13 ft flood stage—and the Atkinson gauge at 14.5 ft, also above its 13 ft threshold. Forecasts call for the river to crest at about 17.2 ft early Sunday, which could submerge the Jamestown Road Boat Ramp, State Road 121 Bridge access roads and isolate a residence on Simmons Trail. A severe thunderstorm warning with 60 mph wind gusts was also posted for the same area.

In addition, a hazardous weather outlook warned of scattered thunderstorms across north and central Georgia, capable of producing strong winds, lightning and heavy rain. Meanwhile, the Atlanta metro area is expected to see heat index values rise into the triple‑digit range (100 °F–105 °F) over the weekend as temperatures climb into the low‑mid 90s, prompting health officials to advise staying hydrated, seeking shade and checking on vulnerable populations.
