Georgia Bureau of Investigation probes fatal Newnan police shooting
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Newnan, Georgia, that resulted in the death of 18-year-old Zadarious Dorsey.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. on October 3, 2026. A Newnan Police Department officer observed a white vehicle near the intersection of Dodson Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and followed it to Cliff Circle. Upon approaching the vehicle, five men exited; four fled on foot while one walked toward a nearby home.
The officer pursued Dorsey, who ignored verbal commands to stop. After an ineffective attempt to use a taser, the officer reported seeing Dorsey pull a gun from his waistband. Despite commands to drop the weapon, the officer shot Dorsey multiple times. Dorsey was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and no officers were injured during the encounter.
