Georgia faces diplomatic tension and Russian import restrictions

Tensions are rising in Georgia involving diplomatic friction and economic restrictions. Leaders of the ruling Georgian Dream party have accused the European Union representative, Pavel Herchenko, of promoting hate speech and violating the Vienna Convention. They claim the EU's support for certain musical groups at events constitutes an insult to the government and its supporters.

Simultaneously, Russia has implemented import bans on certain Georgian products. Zurab Margvelashvili, Executive Director of Tbilisi Wine, stated that while the ban will cause some losses, the company does not expect significant economic damage due to its low market dependence on Russia and its presence in 30 other countries.

Regarding beverage exports, Temur Chqonia, founder of Coca-Cola Bottlers Georgia, clarified that the company does not directly export Coca-Cola to Russia, as its exports are limited to Azerbaijan and Armenia. However, he noted that wholesale partners can legally purchase products and move them into the Russian market.
