Georgia faces extreme heat and severe storm threats

Much of Georgia is facing extreme weather conditions, including a heat advisory and the potential for severe storms. A heat advisory is in effect through Monday evening, with heat index values expected to reach as high as 109 degrees. High humidity and temperatures are expected to persist overnight, offering little relief from the heat.

Additionally, the Storm Prediction Center has placed North Georgia under a marginal risk for severe storms, with the extreme northern tier facing a slight risk. These storms, fueled by a hot and moist airmass, may develop from late afternoon into the early overnight hours. The primary threats include damaging winds and torrential rain, accompanied by frequent lightning and the possibility of small hail.
