Georgia faces severe thunderstorm risk Saturday

North and central Georgia are facing a Level 1 severe weather risk for Saturday afternoon and evening. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop as high heat and humidity persist across the region.

The primary threats from these storms include damaging gusty winds reaching up to 60 mph, frequent lightning, dime-sized hail, and locally heavy rainfall. While the activity will not impact every community, heavy downpours are expected to continue through the overnight hours and into Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for numerous counties, including Cobb, DeKalb, and Gwinnett. Increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through the beginning of next week, with a potential rise in rain chances to 60% by Tuesday.
